Getting the right chair ‘can avoid back pain’

Published on: September 16, 2011 | admin

People who suffer from back pain in work have been advised that getting new furniture for the office can help to provide relief.

The most important thing for people who work from a desk to remember is that they need to stay mobile throughout the day, according to Sean McDougall, chief executive of BackCare.

He explained that some chairs are better than others at encouraging movement and suggested that people should switch to a swivel chair.

"A good solution is a chair which provides proper support to your back and allows you to get up and move around a lot more – so having the ability to swivel is important," Mr McDougall added.

Another key tip was to have furniture which is at the correct height to work at, as this will help to alleviate pain.

Taking care of the back is an important thing for workers and companies alike to remember, as a recent study by Pfizer found that back pain costs the UK economy as much as £12.3 billion each year.
