Oxford University releases furniture range

Published on: September 19, 2011 | admin

A range of furniture has been designed by Oxford University, which takes inspiration from some of the institution's famous properties and alumni.

Named simply The Oxford Collection, the range includes a variety of products from wash bags to a red leather writing desk, which is named after John Radcliffe, physician to William III, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The Bodleian Library also lends its name to a bookcase, which is priced at £3,800 and a £2,650 refectory table, which is a dining table based on that found in Christ Church's dining hall, which was used to film some scenes of the Harry Potter films.

"We have an amazing coffee table inspired by the ceilings of the colleges and a rug inspired by the floor of Christ Church. We want to introduce the brand as a home and lifestyle brand," Serge Gander, managing director of manufacturer Halo Licensing.

A group of US veterans have been producing furniture and picture frames from their carehome, working on the items for around two hours a day.
